Hey everyone, just a few details about our final release.

As you are aware we was in the studio a few months ago demoing a bunch of songs. The plan was to release a new single in early 2011 but we never got that far. We thought it would be a shame for us to not release these tracks so we have decided to release them as they are. 100% raw not 100% finished.We never got to give the songs real names.

These will be made available for Free download on February 21st via http://www.hereticsandlovers.bandcamp.com. One of the tracks is already up and available to listen too and download so go hit up that link!

There is also going to be CD version of the release along-with our Lungfish EP. The CD's will be LTD to 30 copies, each individually Hand numbered, custom artwork, handwritten lyrics and whatever else we feel to include and all handmade by ourselves. These will only be available at our last ever shows. If you would like a copy of the CD then please get in touch before hand and we will save you a copy. Each copy will be unique in its own little way.

An Update.

So most of you already know about our current situation but we haven't really made our reasonings public. Only to those of you who've asked. So here it is...

After the recent issue we had with our drummer Chris, we tried to continue on with the writing of the record. We played with a couple of different drummers, changed our sound and worked on a few different ideas. The new material we were working on was totally different to how Bear Songs were sounding. A lot more minimal but still grew into a big sounding climax. We wrote this way for a few weeks. However, just before Christmas Rob made the decision to take a break from music. His reasoning was something we fully understood and respected. For the past five years we have put everything into this band, all our time and money. We all have full time jobs and it has been Work > Band > Work > Band > Work constantly and at times can be really exhausting. He just wants to clear his head and do other things in life. Being in such a driven band can, more often than not, prevent this. We have left the door open in case we decide to pick it up again in the future but as it stands we are 100% done.

We are playing two last shows. February 24th at Taylor John's House, Coventry. This is We Are Revival's record release show. We are good friends with We Are Revival, who we toured with back in November, and they kindly asked us to play their release show. It was an offer we simply couldn't say no to. It will be a pleasure to play with our friends one last time and Taylor John's is one of my favourite venues throughout the UK! Then Saturday, February 26th - The big one, our last ever show. The Two Pigs, Cheltenham. We are hoping to see a lot of familiar faces there and hoping for a fantastic night. Feel free to come and party with us afterwards.

We did ask Chris to come rejoin us for our last shows to which he said yes but unfortunately, he is committed to other projects and unable to make the show. He is currently involved in a new project called 'I, the Lion' with members from Rookie/Error. They are currently recording tracks and should have something for your ears in the not too distant future. Be sure to check them out on Facebook, YouTube etc.

We will have our two T-Shirt designs on sale, CD's, posters, stickers so be sure to come hassle us for some of that suff because we will, more than likely, have them on sale for less than normal and if we really like you or you keep pestering us we may even throw in something for free.

A big Thank You to everyone who us supported us over the past five years. We have some of the best memories and hopefully we can add to those with whatever we do next.

This is without a doubt one of the hardest situations we have ever been in. We have collectively decided to remove Chris out of the band, We hope this decision will benefit himself as much as it would us writing our new record. We feel that to write this record we need to put everything we got into it and treat it as the one most important things in our life. We have never doubted Chris feeling any different to us or his love for the band/music etc. Without any disrespect to Chris we felt he would not be able to contribute the level of input or time we need to put into this record.

This by far has been both the worst and scariest decision we have ever had to make. Chris is a huge part of our history, being in the band from day one. We love him as a brother and would like to Thank him for everything he has done for the band. Most notably Lungfish, That was a turning point for us.

On the back of this there as been some rumours floating around, to put things straight we are still a band. We are going to continue with writing our record, and we will try to honour any of our upcoming shows.

Thank you for everyone's support to date. It really means a lot. x

Hey everyone, we are heading out on the road in just under a couple of weeks with our firends in We Are Revival. These will be our last major run of shows before the end of the year and before we head to Bandit Studios in December to record some new tracks.

Today, whilst showing my mother our new songs we recently recorded it gave me the opportunity to listen to each of the tracks as if it was an album - Which is our overall goal. I sat there and thought about how great the songs were sounding, how these demos are already sounding huge. I imagined how they would sound once they were double tracked, had additional parts and being a polished version of what i was listening to. It made me realise how close we were to having an albums worth of music. Song wise we only have five complete tracks but it works out about 35 minutes worth of music. An album usually clocks in around 40/45 minutes on average and even though to me it still feels we are just starting with this album, we have way more content then I thought. In my head it seems we still have months of writing/playing shows and recording demo's at every possible chance before we even think about structuring album.

Again we are heading into the studio this week to record another track. It's a new track, one we only wrote during our last practice session, but it gave us a great excitement. It's strange how we can sometimes work for weeks on a track before its a finished product and others we work on for a couple of hours before it feels right and then have the urge to use it. I wont say any of our songs are finished but there are at a stage to were we feel comfortable playing them live.

We have one song confirmed for our next release and we just need to decide on one more, which is going to be the hard part...

Bear Song Sessions #001

So we have wrapped up in the studio, four brand new demo recordings. The tracks will be used to help shape our next record as we continue the writing process for Bear Songs.

Two of the songs will be recorded again in December and will be featured on our next release. I'm sure these demos will be floating around soon so keep your eyes and ears peeled.

As we have previously mentioned, we were hoping to record a couple of new tracks at the end of the year. Well we can now confirm we will be entering Bandit Studios in December and will be working with Johnny Renshaw of Devil Sold His Soul fame to record two new tracks. We are excited by this opportunity as we are fans with most of the bands he has worked with in the past including his own. We are also going to demo a bunch of other new songs in the next few weeks to help us decide which two we will record in December and will feature on our next release...

A few recent and upcoming happenings -

Vans. Recently we had the shit news that 'Bernie' our van of just under three years failed it's MOT and there is just to much wrong with him to fix. We have had some awesome times in that van and on the odd occasion had almost died. We are currently without a van but this wont affect any of our upcoming shows as we found out we can fit all our gear into three cars. Hopefully it won't be too long before we have a new van to travel the country in.

Recording. We are making arrangements to head into the studio at the end of the year to record a couple of new tracks. Not sure what two songs we will be recording as of yet, we are going to continue to write and re-work songs up until the end of the year and will likely choose the two we feel are strongest, and then a double A Side Single release? Maybe...

Also, we were invited along with a few others to hang out and be apart of Medik's upcoming record. If your a fan of Forest band's or Post-Hardcore/Screamo bands make sure you check that out. It sounds killer from the bit's we heard in the studio and can't wait to hear the finished product. It is due to drop sometime in November.

Sat July 24th - Coleford Fringe Festival

We played one of my favorite Heretics and Lovers shows to date last week as part of the Coleford Fringe Festival, what set it apart from other shows is the style of the show. I have a big love for 'Basement' style shows - no stages, no huge PA/sound-systems or lighting rigs (though we do like to use our own small lighting setup). Just us and the audience. Even before being in a band I was always fascinated by nature and the D.I.Y. ethics involved in these types of shows. I would happily pick to play on the floor over a stage any day of the week. Last week at the Kavern we wanted to take it one step further and indeed we did by setting up in the middle of the room. Chris and the drums one side, amps and the rest of us the other and the audience in between. I was nervous in the fact what if no one was interested, we would possibly look quite stupid, however in the end we were completely overwhelmed but how many people was in that room during our set. The middle - end of the set I literally could move anywhere because of the amount of people that were surrounding us. I had lost Chris and Rob in the crowd of people and watched as Andy was learning over his pedals trying not to fall or step on them. It was an incredible experience and one I want to re-visted over and over again. Below is a video of a new song we played from that show currently titled 'SunBear'. The video does go out of sync but you can get the idea of why this show was so fun to play. Thanks to everyone who was there and made it awesome.

Tour Notes

So to sum up our first tour experience.. it was 50% amazing and 50% bad, The only reason it was bad is due to the last two shows being cancelled, the two shows we did play were 110% amazing and way more better than expected... In the lead up to first date in Coventry, I was feeling a little nervous as we didn't have a clue as to how people were going to take to us, the people there really seemed to give it their all and even speaking to the promoter after the show he said he hasn't seen the audience go this crazy at one of his shows before. It is always a nice feeling to know we can play a show and have this sort of impact on the crowd, The same with Manchester too. The setting was an unusual one - A 'weatherspoon' type pub - We arrived at the venue which was full of Japanese football supporters, clearly not there for any of the bands.. We set up in the corner and hung about whilst waiting for the football to be over,with the bands sound checking before kick off and during half time. Japan won 3-1 I think so at least a couple of the football supporters who stuck around were happy. We played to about 15 people and the amount of positive and kind words said to us after the show was outstanding, it made for a truly amazing experience. We already knew before the Manchester show that Sheffield had been cancelled so we decided to hang out in Blackpool for a day which was fun, I wont go into details but if you follow us on Tumblr I'm sure you will of got the jest of stuff we got up too.. We made it to the lake district before we got told the Glasgow show had been cancelled. We were all pretty gutted, end of tour, time to go home!

For me and I think I can speak for the rest of the guys, both the Coventry and Manchester shows made the experience amazing and one we wont forget. Sorry to anyone who was expecting to see us in Sheffield and Glasgow (if anyone..?) hopefully we can make it there soon!

June Is For Lovers

So we are hitting the road at the end of the month, for a small tour. We currently only have 3/5 dates booked and we are desperately seeking for the other two. It goes without saying hook us up if you can..we will play anywhere, anytime. Currently our dates are -

This past week we have been making sure our van will be tour ready via removing the seats and replacing them with beds, fixing all the problems we have been having with our cabs and guitars etc... moved into a new practice space and then moved back out again, which is a real shame because having somewhere which we could leave our gear set up on a permanent basis and come and go as we please just sounds...perfect! We are working hard as ever on the new record too, we will be finishing up all the loose ends this week before we concentrate one whats songs we shall be playing on tour. Below is a video of a new song which will be on the new record and possibly played on tour also, for now the track is called 'Polar Bear'.

Thanks to everyone who has came to our show's over the past few months, all of them have been truely awesome, espically the Two Pigs show. Hand's down my favorite Heretics show to date!

We have been busy writing our new record and it is taking shape nicely. It's always hard to tell which direction the album will take in it's early stages, the only way I can describe it is it's Angrier, Happier, Moodier, Lighter, Heavier. We are not sure how many songs will feature on this record, the idea is to keep writing until we have had enough and choose the best songs/ideas that will fit our record and it's concept.

People's reaction's to Lungfish has been amazing and the people who have heard the new songs which we have been playing live, their reaction has been even better.

A lesson in loyalty

Tonight we played a show at University Of Gloucester's Park Campus.
we were all super excited about playing this show, as there were going to be camera crews, photographers and reporters attending as it was now quite a big annual event.
on top of that we had our whole lighting setup for this one, strobe and projector, was going to be epic.

so we unload the kit from the van as usual, doing stupid shit like riding on the cabs and tripping each other up, the sort of stupid shit you get up to when overly excited and super happy and had too much lucozade all at once.

as we start to get set up on stage, everything seems to be rushed, theres a weird vibe in the air, i just put it down to nerves i guess.
theres no sound check or even line check due the line up being so packed (badly organized show btw), so the lights go out and i start the set with the intro to 'Alter epos', andy comes in and we end up going through the ebow loop way more than we usually do, this was because we were waiting for chris to get on stage as he was setting the projector.
anyway chris eventually gets behind his drum kit and we pick up the pace and come into the main song. we play it perfectly, bang on time and beautifully as intended, one woman in the crowd finds it so atmospheric/emotional i think she started crying.

everything was perfect.

the ringing chords and ambient feedback fade out as the 'Alter Epos' ends and i start the intro to 'viking song (aka Feral Children)'.
its hard to explain exactly what happened next, but basically andys effects rig decides to give up the ghost, so me chris and tinny drag out the intro as long as we can, but andy is still on his knees trying to get his set-up going again, so while he is checking every patch and power lead, we decide to move on and play the rest of the song, as time is real tight.
i turn to take a glance at chris, his hand was covered in blood, im thinking 'what the fuck?'. i then make eye contact with tinny to see if he had noticed chris, insted the look on his face says it all, and it hits me.. this gig that we were all so excited about, had gone from epic to epicly shit in just a few miutes.
within one song we went from being in 'the best place on earth' to 'wanting to pack up and go home'.

we did struggle through and play the rest of the set, but the magic had long gone, and this brought down the sprits of us all, for the rest of the night.

it does make me think.
it makes sense why so many bands "give up".
but thats the thing, we do not just give up, we do not let a bad experience put us off.
the more i think about it, the more i see tonight as a good thing, a test.
it makes me realize how lucky i am to be in a band with such dedicated and amazing people. this is a real band.

As the night draws to a close I am eagerly anticipating the band with such an enchantingly cool name – Heretics and Lovers. All of sudden the lights go low and a black and white film is projected on the back wall behind the band, you can tell these guys mean business and that their music will not be for the faint hearted; it’s time for some real noise.
As soon as this band begins with their awesomely atmospheric beautiful blur of post rock/hardcore I am totally enchanted. Their film and their stage presence is just beautiful and their music – sublime.
It is so rare to find a band of such calibre and when you get to see them live, well you better count yourself lucky. Their sound is much like that of 65 Days Of Static, Set Fire to Flames and to a certain extent Mogwai; but it’s heavy – really heavy in parts. Passion oozes from this band at every interval, the drumming really sings out and the vocals cut through the stunningly atmospheric building of guitars to deliver a sound that is truly mind blowing. It is so great to see a band that clearly live for what they are doing, for me it just adds to the whole experience; live performances are all about setting a scene and captivating an audience by giving them a unique experience which this band do very well.
Everything just blends together so seamlessly – the vocal harmonies set against this back ground of soft post rocky guitar layering then cut through with loud brash drumming is just well, I hate to say it, but for lack of a better word – perfect.
My favourite moment of the whole gig was something personal, I am not even sure if anyone else noticed, but I did. Elliot stepped up to the mic and as he did all the lettering from the film projected across him, as though he was something out of the Matrix. I know it sounds strange but it was a really emotive moment for me, all the lighting was just perfect and the music was at the precise point in the break down.

Recording - Day 2

We have been killing all it day in the studio, Guitars and Bass done! These songs are shaping up into the best songs/recordings we have ever written/done! Each song sounds massive, I can't wait for everyone to hear them! We are currently setting up the drums and playing around with the EQ and get everything sounding nice before Chris can knock out all of his parts tomorrow. We then have a few extra parts for each of the tracks that we are going to play around with. We are on track to have all the music done by the end of our three day sessions leaving only the vocals to be done for our next session. We are still figuring out how we will distribute these tracks when there are ready but we will be releasing them as part of an EP. We were hoping to have these tracks contribute towards our next full length, maybe they still will? But as some of you may know we have gone through some major changes which have prompted us to release them as an EP so we can start the next stage of our life in Heretics and Lovers.

Oh yeah the EP is going to be called Lungfish!

We are coming to a close on day 1 of recording, everything is coming along better than we imagined! We went all out crazy and decided to record guitar's first and they are sounding sexy and huge! Only a couple more guitar tracks left to record which we will finish up tomorrow!

where to start..
we havent really been updating this as much as we planned to.
over the last few months a hell of a lot of alterations have taken place, due to jobs/family/situations ect, and its a strange thing to take time out amongst all the 'change' to write it down, so as i sit here in the control room, Saturday morning, recording our new record lungfish, I'm going to attempt a bit of an update.

so as most know, a few moths back robin (guitar) decided to leave heretics, mainly due to "musical differences", we were then joined by elliot withers of rookie error (temporarily), who has been just amazing, adding a new life to the band.
so heretics continued as rob(me), chris, Jow, tinny and elliot, we continued gigging and writing new material.

every artist works differently, and Jow is a perfect example, every lyric every melody was thought-out days, weeks or even months before he even made a sound. this shaped the way we write our music as a band. our average songwriting/jam session, would usually be we(me,chris,tinny,elliot) write the music while jow absorbs what we play and writes his lyrics and melodies around it, it worked beautifully.

eventually three songs/ideas we're born, with the working titles: viking song, chris's house, and happy doomsday.
with little contributions from jow, the songs we're all instrumental, with some vocal ideas but no solid vocal material.
the four of us progressed, the songs evolved, we grew tighter stronger, our children we're growing up!
gigging continuously, so eager to get the new material heard, despite the fact of no definite vocals we booked studio time.

11 Sep 2009, we had a local gig set, pretty last minute but all totally up for it, Jow calls us to say he's not going to be able to do it.
usually we would give it a miss, but at the practice previous, we somehow come up with the idea of doing an instrumental gig.
no reason, just an experiment. some fun.
the gig went down fucking amazing, with amazing feedback from people who have seen us play many of times before, not just oh "good set guys" people were actually totally stoked but what they heard/saw.
this gave us a massive buzz about the new material, it felt natural, it felt 'us'

next practice, no Jow, we start to get really concerned, i get a message saying he needs to talk.

the reason for Jow leaving is purely down to him being torn between his home life/ work and the band, its such a hard thing for anyone to be in a band, its one of those things where its 'all or nothing', there is no compromise, and Jow feels he is holding us back by not giving paying enough attention, not having enough time.

its made us realize how important this is to us, its cliche, but what doesn't kill us will only make us stronger.
three songs. four dedicated friends. and a love for making music.... LUNGFISH is born.

Last night, Robin made the decision to leave Heretics And Lovers. He explained his reasons and it is something that he has clearly been thinking about for a while. As much as we dont like the situation we respect his decision and himself as a musician. You only get one life so live it and be happy. That Being said, our show this Thursday (31/07) at The Angel, Coleford will be Robins last show with us, tonight will be his last practice! We are going to make Thursdays show one Robin, Us and possible you never forgets. The past 2 and a half years with Robin have been amazing, playing shows all over the uk, self-releasing one EP and realsing our album via Attic Room. We will continue to remain a band, we are not looking to cancel any shows and we will continue to write our next record. What doesnt kill us will only make us stronger!

The past few weeks we have been making some really good progress, we have a handfull of songs on the go. I can only describe these as our darkest and heavyest songs to date. If all goes well we could be playing at least one new song at our shows in July. I am currently listening to a potential new song called 'Cuddles' which we recorded a live jam of it this week. It's a beast!

It's 5.00am, I'm not even tired!, I have spent the majority of the night catching up on everything i have missed over the past week. Now i am just lying in bed thinking about the band, how the new songs are sounding and how we have progressed since recording 'Prayers...' We have talked alot recently about concepts and ideas for the new album, but over the past couple weeks we have taken a step back from concepts and such and have found there has been a lot more freedom in our songwriting. We have been writing these songs for ourselves and not for any record. Dont get me wrong the ideas we have talked about for 'recond secord/HelLP2/our next full length' have been very intresting and ones i personally want to explore, but it has been very refreshing to write songs for the sake of writing songs again. I'm pretty sure we will have at least 3 songs to record when we hit the studio and then we will just need to decide what we are going to do with them. GoodTimes...No Sleep!

P.S. names of our new songs are 'Where Chris Lives','Happy Doomsday' and hasn't really been discussed but im calling our other new song 'ShitDisco#3'

Cheers to people who were kind enough to say these words about us from the gig last Thurday!

I'll leave the official write up to Owen, suffice to say That Heretics and Lovers were pretty awesome. I was sceptical at first, it sounded a bit too formulaic; paint-by-numbers scremo/emo/post hardcore/whatever.
But as the set progressed the sound developed from just songs into atmosphere. Well timed chilled out breakdowns, plenty of feedback and distortion to create a wall of sound that carries you away from the scene - only to slam you back into the crashinfury.
Despite the impromptue encore being marred by one of the guitarists two broken strings, and broken strap button (Sorry, I don't know his name), the band stepped up and performed well. I found it interesting how with the lower E string removed from the guitar, it balanced well; for the most part adding a lighter harmonic to the lower notes of the other guitarist.
I was plesantly surprised by the band, and I'll definately check them out again. Another great night and good atmosphere, even if everyone does bugger off as soon as the last notes ring out. - Morgan Hampton

Well Morgan said it above, Heretics and Lovers were awesome in the truest sense of the word. A lesson in razor-sharp dynamics, if you will. They were the 13th band to play ANOTHER FINE MESS, and the heaviest, cobweb-blasting one to take the stage yet. Having said that, there is also a sweet'n'sour melancholia to their sound as they visit diverse places in their music. - Owen Adams

Welcome To Our New Blog, We thought it was about time we got a little more active...one of the reasons for this is we are starting to gather ideas for LP2, So we thought it would be nice to document the process a little more and better than last time round. We have mentioned that we are hoping to get in the studio around summer time, thats the plan, we have also mentioned we may put out an EP sometime this year...who knows, at this time we cant say more than that it really depends how we feel about the tracks when we record them. All i know is everything we are writing at the moment is in the view for LP2 or as i like to call it helLP2.

Hopefully this blog will give us the chance to write about our thoughts and influences along the way.
